Cast

Arc 1 Characters:

  • Eriko Watanabe
    • A.K.A.: Soul, Neutron (Internet username)
    • Strengths: Intelligence, knowledge, making sense, honesty.
    • Weaknesses: Poor social skills, honesty.
    • Likes: Mental challenges, science, technology, geek culture, making a positive difference.
    • Dislikes: Willful stupidity, breaking the rules, getting put into a coma/hit by thrown cars/stabbed/blasted/imprisoned/hurt by the villains the universe keeps throwing at her.
    • Quote: "My name is Watanabe Eriko. I'm a future Nobel Prize laureate, and reality is my bitch."
    • Bio: The most intellectual and introverted magical girl this side of Ami Mizuno, Eriko obtained her powers through a mix of luck and scientific curiosity. She's extremely smart - enough to tell how deeply out of her depth she is (whether she's smart enough to manage in spite of it all remains to be seen).
Having spent some of her childhood in America, Eriko is familiar with both American and Japanese culture...and is a bit alien to both. Junko is pretty much her only friend, and even that is a recent development.
  • Junko Takahashi
    • Strengths: Loyalty.
    • Weaknesses: Dead mother, abusive father, wrong genre savvy, loyalty.
    • Likes: Romance, magic, gossip.
    • Dislikes: Loneliness, debts.
    • Quote: "I owe you one, and I swear I'll repay my debt to you."
    • Bio: Junko's slightly genki class clown exterior serves to hide her own misery. Between her mother's death and her father blaming her, her life hasn't exactly been rosy. She has been recently adopted by the Watanabes, but seems to have trouble adjusting to this new life. This is further complicated by how deeply indebted to Eriko she feels she is. And, you know, being Eriko's sole confident when it comes to the magical girl thing.
  • Eiji Watanabe
    • A.K.A.: Dad
    • Strengths: Open-mindedness, perspective.
    • Weaknesses: NA
    • Likes: His job, his family, learning more about the world, sharing what he's learned.
    • Dislikes: Close-mindedness, threats to his daughter.
    • Bio: A journalist, Mr. Watanabe has over the years covered numerous subjects, though he always comes back to politics. He took a three-year assignment in Washington DC not only as a carreer move, but also because he wanted his family to see and learn to know a different part of the world.
While he is proud of Eriko in many ways, he is understandably upset at the idea of her being in danger. If he knew she was Soul, he'd probably blow a fuse.
  • Mitsuki Watanabe
    • A.K.A.: Mom
    • Strengths: Flexibility, patience.
    • Weaknesses: NA
    • Likes: Freedom, her family.
    • Dislikes: Social pressure, threats to her daughter.
    • Quote: "This is Eriko we're talking about; we've already seen she doesn't run away from danger, and I have extra gray hair to prove it."
    • Bio: comes from a more traditional family than her husband, and has been toying the line between rebellion and conformity for much of her life. Her relatives may not think very highly of her husband, but these two seem to complement each other well.
While she is proud of Eriko in many ways, she is understandably upset at the idea of her being in danger. If she knew she was Soul, she'd probably blow a fuse.

  • Kazu
    • Strengths: Self-confidence.
    • Weaknesses: Over-confrontational jerk.
    • Likes: Lording over others, physical or verbal conflict.
    • Dislikes: Rules.
    • Bio: A delinquent from Eriko's school, Kazu's aggressive and boisterous behavior has earned him both the fear and admiration of many other students. There are several girls who want him, several boys who want to be him, and several people who think he's an asshole and just want him to go away. He has taken an interest in Eriko due to her willingness to give him backtalk.
  • Gosho, Tomo and Takato
    • Bio: Friends of Junko from school. Gosho is a member of the basketball club, Tomo is a big fan of shojo manga and Takato is a member of the computer club.

  • Mother Aurora
    • A.K.A.: The Fairy Queen, The Pink Bitch in the Sky (by Eriko)
    • Strengths: Confidence, determination, the loyalty of her people, ludicrous power levels.
    • Weaknesses: Powerful enemies, can't access fairy-barred worlds.
    • Likes: NA
    • Dislikes: Threats to the multiverse.
    • Quote: "So do you intend to do your duty and protect your people, Watanabe Eriko? Or do you intend to stay here in the relative safety of your castle, while your fellow humans die like flies?"
    • Bio: An extremely powerful magic-user, Mother Aurora has recruited Eriko as part of an effort to protect the universe. Unfortunately, she seems to have a strong aversion to revealing any information that isn't immediately vital.
  • Monsoon
    • Strengths: Optimism, charisma, people skills.
    • Weaknesses: NA
    • Likes: Quite a lot of things.
    • Dislikes: NA
    • Quote: "Heh! This music is fun!"
    • Bio: An agent and adviser to Mother Aurora, Monsoon is chipper, cheerful, and smarter than she seems on first impression. She can get along with almost anyone.

  • Downfall
    • Strengths: Ruthlessness.
    • Weaknesses: Tries too hard.
    • Likes: Revenge, outlets for cruelty, magnificent bastards.
    • Dislikes: Everyone in general and mankind in particular.
    • Quote: "Ah, you speak English. Good, I was worrying that there'd be no final talk before the showdown."
    • Bio: A centuries-old demon, Downfall was sent to Earth by Endless Ravage, one of the smaller factions of Hell. In the name of Righteous Vengeance, he has launched a brutal, magic-powered terror strike on Tokyo. He's taken to thinking of Soul as his arch-nemesis.
  • Masaki
    • A.K.A.: The Living Curse
    • Strengths: ...let me get back to you on that.
    • Weaknesses: Way over his head.
    • Likes: Getting respect.
    • Dislikes: Getting kicked around. Or being at the mercy of a psychotic demon.
    • Bio: A dropout delinquent, Masaki was as quick to accumulate resentment of society as he was to join the nearest street gang - the Black Skulls. Then a strange man showed up...

  • Murder
    • Strengths: Experience, killing.
    • Weaknesses: Numerous enemies.
    • Likes: Killing, especially targets that require at least a little effort.
    • Dislikes: Playing by anyone else's rules.
    • Quote: "The multiverse is a huge hunting ground for me. Things to do, people to kill, enjoyment to be had."
    • Bio: An elysian armed with a very powerful magical knife, Murder is an immortal, interdimensional serial killer, and one of the deadliest individuals in the multiverse. He seems to have a certain aristocratic flair and penchant for melodrama, as well as a fondness of blades.

  • Victoria Steel
    • A.K.A.: Steel-Sama
    • Strengths: Money, connections, intelligence, determination, ruthlessness, the ability to make everyone shut up and obey.
    • Weaknesses: NA
    • Likes: NA
    • Dislikes: NA
    • Quote: "You are one of the contingencies."
    • Bio: A wealthy American businesswoman, Steel epitomizes ruthlessness and efficiency. She cultivates mob connections, but does a superb job of covering her trail. For reasons as of yet unknown, she has been secretly conducting research into a variety of unconventional domains, and is showing great interest in the recent magical events.
  • Katsutoshi Steel
    • Strengths: More bishi than bishi, impeccable manners, charm up the ears.
    • Weaknesses: Psychological mess.
    • Likes: Being liked by people.
    • Dislikes: Disingenuity, people.
    • Bio: The son of Steel-Sama and a Japanese man of legally questionable activities, Katsutoshi is used to having a lot of money and no parental warmth (having a dead father and a mother like Steel-Sama could mess most people up, really). He is bitter and cynical, but will not show a hint of it at his prestigious private high school - there, he presents a "prince charming" image, and is a real Casanova. He doesn't think much of anyone, and decries the phoniness of everyone around him (the fact that he is more than a little phony himself apparently flies over his head).
  • Bill Harris
    • Strengths: People skills.
    • Weaknesses: At Steel-Sama's mercy.
    • Likes: Money.
    • Dislikes: NA
    • Bio: Steel-Sama's right-hand man, Harris was originally a con man who tried to pull one on her. He ended up getting thoroughly played instead, and has no choice but to work for her, as both law enforcement and criminals will want his head on a pike as soon as he longer has her protection. He seems to have adjusted well, though.
  • Dimitry Onegin
    • Strengths: Science.
    • Weaknesses: Tendency to get into trouble.
    • Likes: Research, his family.
    • Dislikes: The holes he keeps digging himself in.
    • Bio: A Russian would-be scientist, Dimitry got kicked out of college before completing his thesis, became an illegal drug designer in order to feed his family, and finally came to America to work at a secret lab for Steel-Sama in the hope of arranging for his family to come. His ability to get himself into this kind of trouble is impressive, really.
  • Noboru Kahara
    • Strengths: Money, connections, ruthlessness.
    • Weaknesses: Intimidated by the unknown.
    • Likes: Power.
    • Dislikes: Not being in control.
    • Bio: One of the most powerful Yakuza leaders in Japan, Kahara is feared by many. He is also stuck in an uneasy "alliance" with Steel-Sama, and has no illusions as to who the real power there is.

  • Hyosuke Aoyama
    • Strengths: Honesty, courage, experience, professionalism.
    • Weaknesses: Gruffness, makes himself an inconvenience to his higher-ups.
    • Likes: Old movies, justice, his job.
    • Dislikes: Corruption, incompetence, his job.
    • Bio: An aging police detective approaching retirement age, Hyosuke is one of the most competent and honest men on the force. This does not necessarily make him popular, and his superiors have assigned him to investigate the recent magical events mostly as a way to keep him too busy to look into corruption cases. Granted, at the time they had no idea the case would reach such major proportions. Hyosuke may be more than a little bitter, but he remains devoted to his duty.
  • Hiromasa Shiina
    • Strengths: Has a competent partner.
    • Weaknesses: Brown-nosing git.
    • Likes: NA
    • Dislikes: NA
    • Quote: "That's brilliant!"
    • Bio: Hiromasa is a young police detective who was assigned as Hyosuke's partner a few years ago. Hyosuke seems to think rather little of him.
  • Professor Maru
    • Strengths: Imagination, knowledge.
    • Weaknesses: Over-enthusiasm.
    • Likes: Science, coming up with new theories.
    • Dislikes: Not being taken seriously.
    • Bio: A physicist with an interest in multiple fields, Maru has a tendency to come up with ideas and conjectures that go beyond what he can prove or disprove. While his speculations are intellectually interesting, they have cost him some credibility within the scientific community, where some of his colleagues accuse him of lacking rigor. He is nevertheless respected for his multi-disciplinary competence, which has led Hyosuke and Hiromasa to turn to him in the hope of finding more about the recent events.
  • Koyama
    • Strengths: Organizational skills, public relations.
    • Weaknesses: Over-reliance on office politics.
    • Likes: His career, security.
    • Dislikes: Rocking the boat.
    • Bio: A rising star in the Japanese police force, Koyama is reasonably good at getting the job done, and better at placating his superiors and the public. Not everyone, not even him, is certain that this meant he was the best possible choice for director of the new Paranormal Crisis Task Force...but he's there, and he intends to make the best of it.

  • The Supreme One
    • A.K.A.: NA
    • Strengths: Leadership, politics, loyal agents, rules the biggest interdimensional empire in the multiverse.
    • Weaknesses: Greed, pettiness.
    • Likes: Control, prestige.
    • Dislikes: Mother Aurora.
    • Quote: "Grand Adviser Chancell, bringing this world under my control is now your greatest priority.""
    • Bio: Perhaps the most influential person in all reality, the Supreme One has complete control over the Elysium - and, through it, countless worlds that the Elysium has subjugated. He is constantly striving to expand his already-immense power, and has set his sights on Earth, giving Chancell the task of conquering it.

  • Secano
    • Strengths: Lateral thinking.
    • Weaknesses: Inexperience.
    • Likes: NA
    • Dislikes: NA
    • Bio: An agent of the Elysium, Secano's carreer was going rather poorly until Chancell surprisingly made him his right-hand. The Grand Adviser seems to believe the younger elysian has potential. Secano is determined to prove him right.
  • Samsod
    • Strengths: Courage, combat skills.
    • Weaknesses: Anything outside of his area of expertise.
    • Likes: Weapons, fighting, honor.
    • Dislikes: Talking.
    • Bio: Samsod is a thorison, a type of human warrior at the Elysium's service. He obeys Chancell's orders unquestioningly.

  • Kurt Winston
    • A.K.A.: The Ghost.
    • Strengths: Lot of pull within the agency, respected by both superiors and subordinates.
    • Weaknesses: NA
    • Likes: The American Dream, knowing what's going on.
    • Dislikes: NA
    • Bio: A vice-director of the CIA, Winston might owe his nickname to his albinism. As both Helen and Walker's superior, he is finding himself dealing with matters far outside the CIA's usual purview.
  • Helen Barker
    • Strengths: Expert markswoman, talented manipulator, highly perceptive, ruthless, determined as hell.
    • Weaknesses: Over-achiever, competitive streak.
    • Likes: Winning, international security.
    • Dislikes: NA
    • Bio: A CIA field agent, Helen has a history of going above and beyond the call of duty. Probably in large part due to that, she doesn't have much of a life outside of work.
  • Travis Walker
    • Strengths: Cool-headedness.
    • Weaknesses: NA
    • Likes: Team synergy.
    • Dislikes: NA
    • Bio: Another CIA agent, Walker is currently assigned to advising the PCTF.
